  About Ireland

Ireland is an island off the west coast of Europe.  It is divided into 32 counties.  If you look at the map below, you will see that six of the northern counties are still occupied by Britain.  The six counties are referred to as Northern Ireland and form part of the UK.  The remaining 26 counties are referred to as the Republic of Ireland (ROI) or Eire.  -   Click here if you want to see a full map of Ireland.

The ROI is an English speaking country.  We are a full member of the E.U. (European Union).  The Euro is the currency used within the ROI.  Irish Office is based in Dublin which is the capital of the ROI - see the red ring on the map below.

The ROI is a very stable and neutral democracy.  Civil liberties are well protected by our constitution.  The police are not armed and are easy to get on with.  You don't have to carry ID.  Basically, you can come and go as you please without any hassle provided you keep within the law.

Fact: Ireland is the second largest exporter of software in the world.
